My Experience With trying to overcome chronic stress and anxiety to rising above fear, doubt, insecurity
Let me tell you a personal story
about how I went from burnout, anxious, depressed, chronically stressed to rising beyond fear, doubt and insecurity; and break self-defeating habits.
7 years ago, I left my job as a psychologist to take what was only meant to be a one-year temporary break from the cumulative stress of the job.
The first 4 months seemed amazing as I visited my family overseas and began studying nutrition. I continued to run on adrenaline and signs like insomnia and moodiness were already showing.
However, around the 5th month mark, my body and my mind went into full-blown fatigue and began to exhibit terrible signs of burnout syndrome.
At first, I thought if I could just hide these symptoms it would go away. It was easy to hide them as I slept during the day while my husband was at work, and I said no to almost all social invitations so no one could see its impact on me on my skin, my mood, and my health. I also put in my official resignation.
At first, I thought by hiding away it would heal on its own..how wrong I was..a year later I realised
I was literally living in two worlds.
One in which people saw me as this bubbly, happy, lucky girl who had everything she could ever need or want. Don’t get me wrong, I was able to put up the front of this exact image when I did go out, and at times I really did feel this way…briefly.
But majority of the time I was living this other life where feelings of constant exhaustion, anxiety, and body-shame towered over me.
When I realised this, I knew something HAD to change.
So, I reconnected with my Eastern philosophy roots and started to do more research on how to combine my understanding of mindfulness, behavior analysis with my psychology knowledge.
From there, I regained my confidence, saved my relationships, created several streams of income that are soul-aligned. It was a game changer.
I had figured out how to gain freedom from my burnout and took charge of my own life; and it all started with this powerful realisation…

Some fun facts: My friends say that you would instantly recognise me as being the super petite Kiwi-Taiwanese (good things come in small packages right!?), with an infectious laugh, a bubbly personality and a complete and utter foodie with a love of animals!
At the age of 9, I immigrated to New Zealand from Taiwan to start a new way of life with my family, who were looking for a more relaxed pace and an English education for me and my siblings.
Even though I shifted countries and cultures, I always maintained my connection to and pride in my Asian heritage. It brings me great joy to live and breathe this culture with its wisdom, philosophies and spirituality; it’s just a natural way of being for me.
